Rock & Republic Files for Bankruptcy
Rock & Republic announced yesterday that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The privately held company expects to continue day-to-day operations, and plans to refocus on its shoe and core apparel businesses. The label hasn’t been the picture of financial health for months. It canceled its fall 2010 Fashion Week show and slashed distribution of its makeup line.
The show was always a spendy spectacle, with a plethora of potentially costly celebrity attendees, elaborate sets (which once included an orchestra pit), and sometimes props (which once included guns for the models). And all this for a label whose main thing is jeans — but perhaps the founders believed they owed customers this tomfoolery in exchange for the $200-and-up price tags on those pants. [NYMag]

Jess opted for shimmering gold shadow on her top lids, and metallic blue liner on the bottom. Even her pedi was carefully matched to her printed Proenza Schouler mini. [BellaSugar]

Alexander McQueen: The Final Collection

The last collection designed by Alexander McQueen before his death was shown this morning in a gilded salon at the headquarters of Francois Pinault. Models walked slowly and solemnly in the sixteen looks to haunting operatic music. Tears welled in the eyes of more than a few spectators, as the audience took in the opulent, detailed McQueen creations with inspirations ranging from Byzantine art and Old Masters paintings to the wood carving and sculpture of Grinling Gibbons.
The show notes ended with the words: “Each piece is unique, as was he.” Two days from now, retailers will be invited to purchase a showroom collection consisting of 160 pieces. (Style.com)
